THE NATURAL LAWN
CAREX PANSA: THE NATURAL LAWN
Some years ago we installed this garden in San Mateo for a couple that collect art. This was the first time we had used carex pansa as a lawn substitute. For some time afterward, if you would Google “natural lawns,” our name would be the first to appear, so we were able to share our experience with folks all over the world. You can mow it if you want, but left to its own devices it makes a lovely wild meadow, and uses a great deal less water than a conventional lawn. Recently the clients called us back to see how the garden has changed over time. Thanks to them, the garden has been maintained well and has prospered; it even has its own sculpture now, which the clients purchased in Vietnam.
